Alice is played by Jessica Clark, a sixth-grader at Creekland Middle School.
The Carpenter, Maggie Gibson, and Walrus Jack Cody help bring the beloved Lewis Carroll classic to life. The production is based on the well-loved story by Carroll and adapted for the stage by Tiffany Fenech, who is also the director of the Children’s Theatre production, and Tim Dial. The play will showcase the talents of about 35 young actors ranging from second-graders to eighth-graders.
The group is a collaboration between Matt Tamanini, Creekview High School’s theatre director, and Karrie Mattice, owner of Applause Conservatory in the Macedonia Community.
The production is based on the well-loved story by Lewis Carroll and adapted for the stage by Tiffany Fenech, who is also the director of the Children’s Theatre production, and Tim Dial.
The play will showcase the talents of about 35 young actors ranging from second-graders to eighth-graders.
“Matt Tamanini first began working on the idea of starting a children’s community theater in the spring of 2010 and approached me with the idea in 2011,” Mattice said. “I had recently opened a performing arts studio in the area, and it seemed like a wonderful opportunity to bring the children of the Creekview area something new and exciting.”
It took months of hard work tossing around ideas to make the theatre group become a reality, she said.
“We started with drama/musical theatre camps this summer, chose our first two shows to perform, decided on the directors and we were off and running. We hope the whole community receives as much joy from this theatre group as we have,” she said.
Among those in the production is Jessica Clark, who is starring as Alice.
Jessica is the daughter of Matt and Laura Clark and in the sixth grade at Creekland Middle School. Jessica is involved in chorus, jazz, musical theatre, student council, sixth grade Junior Grizzlies cheerleading and tennis.
Jessica has starred in “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Little Mermaid,” “Charlotte’s Web,” “Secret Garden,” and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” She is passionate about acting, dancing, and singing and is excited to be in a play with her siblings, Tyler and Rachel.
Jack Cody, who plays the Walrus and King, is 9 years old and in the fourth grade at Avery Elementary.
He is making his theater debut tonight in “Alice in Wonderland.” Jack enjoys playing a wide range of sports including baseball, basketball, wrestling and water skiing.
His favorite day of the week is Monday when he attends AIM in school. Besides being an Honor Roll student, Jack also received the Principal’s Award when he attended Hickory Flat Elementary.
Paul DiCicco, who plays the White Rabbit, is in the seventh grade at Creekland Middle, and this is his debut show.
He enjoys music and hanging out with his friends and family. In his free time he plays the piano, saxophone, and enjoys reading.
The cast brings the production alive on the Creekview High School stage with performances on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.
