Charles “Butch” Cox, 66 of Tate, GA passed away Friday December 7, 2012 at his residence. A native of Cherokee County he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Ruth Cox of whom he was the only child. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother Lucy Cox. Survivors include step brother, James Palmer; uncle and aunt, Larry and Nita Ellgass and many, many cousins and friends. Mr. Cox retired from the Cherokee County School System in June of 1999 as principal of R.M. Moore Elementary School. Mr. Cox also served as principal and teacher in the Cherokee County School System for 30 years. Among his many interests as a retiree, he was a Master Gardner in Pickens County and of course he will be remembered by all as an enthusiastic Auburn University fan. He was a member and Elder of Trinity Church of Marble Hill. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Trinity Church. The church is located at 2685 Steve Tate Hwy near the Big Canoe entrance. Mr. Cox donated his remains to Emory School of Medicine, there will be no graveside service. Darby Funeral Home.
