Shortly after 7 a.m., 42-year-old Michelle Hale of Canton was struck by a minivan driven by 18-year-old Alexander Hopkins of Canton and sustained a non-life threatening leg injury.
Hopkins, who lives in a nearby neighborhood, was cited for driving with an obstructed windshield and failing to obey a traffic controller, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
Baker said Hopkins still had frost on his windshield, which obstructed his view of the roadway and the crossing guard.
“I would recommend any drivers please wait until their windshield is completely defrosted before entering the roadway,” Baker said.
Hale has been a crossing guard with the sheriff’s office for the last 10 years and is an exemplary employee, Baker said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Baker said Hale was still in the hospital being evaluated.
