The accident shut down East Cherokee Drive, where the accident occurred, during the morning’s commute.
Gordy Wright, spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol, said the pedestrian killed was identified as Brandon Paul Mitcheltree.
Mitcheltree was walking with traffic in the travel lane when he was hit by the vehicle driven by Joseph Michael Homesley, 21 of Canton, and died at the scene, Wright said.
Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred near Avery Drive.
Wright said a state trooper was called to investigate the crash at 6:51 a.m.
“The victim, a male, was walking in the roadway southbound on East Cherokee when a PT Cruiser rounded a curve,” Wright said. “The driver didn’t see the pedestrian in the roadway and struck him with the right front of the vehicle.”
Wright said the driver is not suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.
He added weather was not a factor in the crash and no charges will be filed in the case.
