ATLANTA (AP) — Officials with the Transportation Safety Administration say the first gun of 2013 has been confiscated at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

WAGA-TV reports authorities recovered an unloaded handgun along with 30 rounds in a passenger’s carry-on bag Wednesday.

The airport in 2012 ranked first nationally in terms of the number of handguns that have been confiscated. Authorities say 100 guns were recovered from passengers’ bags last year.

TSA officials have said about 1,500 firearms were confiscated in airports across the country in 2012. The figure is up from about 1,300 in 2011. Authorities say firearms may only be transported in checked baggage.
