DEAR EDITOR:

This most recent shameful and costly (to the taxpayers!) and unnecessary special election is a picture of back room politics.

Our governor engineered this latest costly back room deal to serve his political interests.

Before the November elections, out of sight of the Georgia citizens, the governor made a deal with Chip Rogers to get him out of the Legislature.

We deceived voters went to the polls in November and re-elected Chip Rogers to serve another term as our state Senator.

Chip deceived all of us, already knowing he had a deal with our shady governor not to serve his newly elected term and take a fat cooked-up job the governor gave him to go away.

To add shameful insult to injury and expense to all us Georgia taxpayers, a special election was hurriedly called to elect a new state senator.

Then Sean Jerguson smelled the opportunity to get that job and resigned his newly elected term without serving a day of it. This is not only shameful but stupid for us to have to go back to the polls two short months after the regular elections.

We need to do away with all special elections! When we elect a politician to serve a new term — if for any reason he or she does not serve the entire term — we should just leave that seat vacant until the next regular election.

We know our shady, deceptive governor and the majority of the gold domers are not going to reform and be up front and honest with us, but we shouldn’t be further penalized with costly unnecessary special elections.

Sadly, this is another sign of how our political systems from top to bottom in America have gone to hell. How long, O Lord, can we sustain this?
