Tim Cavender of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services said a 36-year-old male and a 31-year-old female were both taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for treatment of second-degree burns after a residential fire broke out around 2:15 a.m. on Bells Ferry Road, just south of Butterworth Road.
Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the one-story home upon arrival.
The residents were awakened by a smoke alarm in the home, Cavender said.
The home was gutted by the fire.
Its cause is still under investigation.
“Investigators were at the scene on Tuesday, but no cause has been determined,” Cavender said.
Both lanes of Bells Ferry Road were blocked while firefighters worked the scene Saturday, Cavender said.
