With the final games of the regular season slated for Friday, the county’s basketball teams are jostling for position in their respective regions.

The regular-season standings will determine the seeding for the region tournaments, where the top four finishers advance to the state playoffs.

Creekview actually wrapped up its regular season with a 72-53 loss to Sprayberry. The Grizzlies lost several games down the stretch and fell from second in the Region 7AAAAA standings to third.

They now face a play-in game against Northview on Saturday.

Coach Casey Gramling said his team has lacked consistency throughout the season.

“It’s been a roller coaster all year,” he said. “I feel we can beat anybody, and we can get beat by anybody. We just aren’t very consistent.”

The Grizzlies’ biggest concern may be the loss of center Brandon Pressley, who dislocated his shoulder in the loss to Sprayberry.

Sequoyah finished the regular season atop the region standings after a 71-61 victory over Osborne on Tuesday. The Chiefs (20-5, 13-2) will enjoy a bye in the region tournament and will not play against until Wednesday.

Woodstock edged Roswell 39-38 on Tuesday for its second straight Region 5AAAAAA victory. With the Wolverines trailing 38-37, Jalen Hannah got his hand on a pass that allowed Chris Mowery to make a steal that gave Woodstock the ball with 8 seconds to play. After a timeout, Trey Alexander received the ball at the top of the key and drove into the lane for a well-contested shot with 1.8 seconds left to win the game.

Matt Scott led the team with 17 points, while Alexander scored 10.

The Wolverines (10-14, 6-7) will host arcrival Etowah on Friday.

The Etowah boys sit at the bottom of the Region 5AAAAA standings, despite a 72-64 victory over Lassiter on Tuesday night.

The Eagles (8-16, 3-10) sit a game behind Walton in the region standings, but could move into a tie with the Raiders should they beat Woodstock.

On the girls side, Woodstock is firmly in second place in Region 5AAAAAA. The Lady Wolverines (18-6, 11-2) defeated Roswell 59-29 on Tuesday and host Etowah for senior night Friday.

Etowah is fighting for third place in the region. The Lady Eagles (11-13, 7-6) suffered a tough 41-40 defeat at the hands of Lassiter on Tuesday and have now lost two straight games.

Sequoyah (10-15, 6-9) wrapped up its regular season with a loss to Osborne on Tuesday. The Lady Chiefs will open the Region 7AAAAA tournament against North Springs on Saturday.
