A free concert tonight at Reinhardt University will offer local residents a chance to see the 282nd Army Band from Fort Jackson in action.

The concert is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Falany Performing Arts Center on the campus in Waleska.

The 282nd Army Band based in Columbia, S.C. is under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Jonathon D. Ward and 1st Sgt. Eric Basora and is comprised of 40 professional soldier/musicians.

The 282nd Army Band’s primary mission is to support ceremonies and events on Fort Jackson maintaining the morale and esprit de corps of the soldiers, civilians and families stationed there.

The band supports Fort Jackson’s mission to transform civilians into soldiers by performing at weekly Basic Training Graduations.

Although the Marching Band is the primary ceremonial performing group, the 282nd Army Band has several performing groups covering many genres of musical literature including a jazz combo, brass quintet, Dixieland band, and rock band that perform for a multitude of programs and ceremonies.

The 282nd Army Band is seen at nearly every public event on post and performs in over 400 missions a year and for an audience of over 300,000 annually, making it one of the most visible military bands.

This concert is free and open to the public.
