Marguerite Cline will be the featured speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Ball Ground Historical Society on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of the Ball Ground City Hall.
Cline, a local author and regular columnist for the Cherokee Tribune, will speak about her latest book “The Glory Days of WCHK.”
Known as Georgia’s Good Neighbor, WCHK AM 1290 began operations in April 1957 as the first radio station in Canton.
Ormer broadcasters from WSB Radio in Atlanta came to Canton to get Cherokee County’s first radio station on the air.
The station also produced some well known Atlanta television personalities including the late Jim Axel, who worked for WAGA and Don McClellan, who worked for WSB television.
Byron Dobbs, who was the general manager of WCHK for many years, was inducted into the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2008, and is featured throughout the book.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments also will be served.
Copies of her book will be for sale at the event.
