It is the first region championship in the the Lady Knights’ history, and the victory earned them their second straight 20-win season. They will host Grady when the Class AAAA playoffs open next week.
Leading only 30-29 at the half, River Ridge (20-8) switched its defense in the third quarter to shut down Northwest Whitfield’s back-door cuts, and then got a big offensive boost from Jessica Baker to begin to gain control of the game.
Baker connected on four 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the Lady Knights go on a 23-9 run, and she then added another to begin the fourth. Baker finished the night with 19 points and six rebounds.
River Ridge didn’t Northwest Whitfield any opportunity to get back into the game, as it connected on 21 of 25 free throws for the game.
Parker Nayman went 8-for-11 from the free-throw line and finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Psomas scored all nine of her points at the line, where she went 9-of-11 overall.
Jordan Livesay scored a team-high 20 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
