Habitat for Humanity — North Central Georgia held a First Nail Ceremony for the Underwood family on March 2. The property is located on Price Road in Canton.
Saturday turned out to be a very cold day but the many sponsors, volunteers and family members who attended the ceremony were anxious to start construction on the home. They spent the day building and raising the frame on the house. It will take about three months to build the home, which is due to be completed mid-May.
The home is being built in partnership with Renee Underwood, a single mother of two young children, Dalilah, 3, and David, 1.
Underwood is a long-time resident of Cherokee County and has worked for the last five and a half years at a local drug store. She is thrilled with the prospect of becoming a homeowner and having a stable place to raise her children.
“I am profoundly thankful to everyone who will be helping to build my family’s home,” Underwood said at the ceremony.
Habitat is able to build the home due to the generosity of several community sponsors including Schoen Insulation Services, Hillside United Methodist Church, Lowe’s, Saint Clement’s Episcopal Church, Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Joe E. Johnston Foundation, North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council and Scott C. Dozier, Merrill Lynch.
