ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say the suspect in a hit-and-run that left a 19-year-old Kennesaw State University student in a coma has turned himself in to police.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that 22-year-old William Wilson Heaton of Rydal faces several charges after surrendering early Wednesday evening to authorities at the Clarke County Jail. The charges include drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police say Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass next to an Athens road on Feb. 16 when a pickup truck left the road, hit her and then fled.
Police said officers spent dozens of hours reviewing video from about 10 surveillance cameras during their investigation.
Heaton’s attorney, Anthony Perotta, declined to say whether Heaton was driving the pickup when it struck Bowman.
