Prep Roundup: Grizzlies get past Cambridge

Creekview scored four runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth in breaking away for a 9-4 win Thursday at Cambridge.

The Grizzlies (6-3, 5-0 Region 7AAAAA) had 10 hits and remained undefeated in league play.

Avery Smith had a double and a triple with an RBI and two runs scored. Chandler Wold was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Ryan Zentko had a hit, two RBIs and scored a run.

Ben Carraway (2-0) earned the win after allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out

three in five innings. Creekview gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Jordan Pickerill came on in relief to squash the Bears’ rally.

Creekview will travel to Woodstock on Saturday for a non-region game between county rivals.


River Ridge 6, Cass 4:
Shannon Driscoll recorded a hat trick as the Lady Knights withstood the high-scoring Region 7AAAA game in White.

River Ridge (4-4, 2-0) built a 6-1 lead in the second half before Cass scored three unanswered goals.

Brooke DeSantis added two goals, while Aubrey Wooten scored a goal assisted by DeSantis. Allison Clarke-Hall also had an assist.

River Ridge will host Wheeler on Monday, its seventh game against a higher-classification team.


River Ridge 5, Gilmer 0:
The Knights recorded shutouts at three flights and dominated their Region 7AAAA opener.

Jeremy Mims and Gabe Mims won without giving up a game in singles play, as did the doubles team of Jake Hicks and Clay McIntyre.

Ben Van Hout allowed one game in his win, with the team of A.J. Joyner and Matt Polley allowing three.

River Ridge (2-3, 1-0) will play in a tournament this weekend at Marietta, beginning with today’s match against Union Grove.


Creekview 5, Pickens 0:
The Lady Grizzlies swept their opponent to even their record at 4-4.

Emily Fraysier won her match at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles player Lauren Pero also won 6-0, 6-0, while No. 3 singles player Olivia Rowland won 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the team of Hannah Rowland and Sloan Anderson won 6-2, 6-0. Keir Fowler and Alexis Pache combined for a 6-0, 6-2 victory that completed the sweep.

Creekview will play at Sprayberry today in a Region 7AAAAA match.
