As the debate over WellStar Kennestone’s plans to expand their operations in Holly Springs simmers to a steady boil, the Holly Springs City Council is set to vote on the matter at its meeting Monday.

WellStar has made a request to the city of Holly Springs to issue a conditional use permit and to rezone a 62-acre plot of land at the intersection of Interstate 575 and Sixes Road. At that site over the next several years, they hope to install three new health care facilities: a health park, hospital and hospice facility.

The Cobb-based health care group’s plans have met with strong opposition from homeowners near the proposed site, competing health care firm Northside Hospital and the Cherokee County Board of Commissions, who elected their chairman, Buzz Ahrens, to pen a letter to Holly Springs expressing concerns the board had with the request.

Ahrens sent his letter last Friday.

WellStar answered with a point-by-point answer to Ahrens’ concerns Wednesday with another letter to the city.

Holly Springs City Councilman Michael Zenchuk said Friday that these letters were only two of the many messages the city has received on the matter.

“There are interested parties on both sides,” he said.

Also at the meeting Monday, the Holly Springs City Council will:

* Vote on requests to annex and rezone two acres of land at 3095 Marble Quarry Road for commercial use;

* Vote on a lease agreement for 100 Hickory Circle;

* Discuss and vote on stormwater maintenance agreement for Walmart;

* Discuss and vote on whether or not Ashton Woods Homes will pay for repairs and maintenance to the townhome section and Unit 1 of the detached home section of the Stoney Creek development in lieu of providing another maintenance bond; and

* Discuss floodplain mapping project bids for the future.
