First Baptist Church of Woodstock
The First Baptist Church of Woodstock has many events planned for this year’s Easter season.
On Maundy Thursday, March 28, the church will have its words-from-the-cross sermon “The last 7 words of Jesus” at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel.
The following day, a secret church simulcast will be at 7 p.m. in the chapel.
On Saturday, March 30, a choir and orchestra will perform to complement the 3 p.m. service in the worship center and the 5 p.m. service in the chapel.
For Easter Sunday, the church will also have two worship services, with the first being simulcast at 9 a.m. in the worship center and chapel and the second service at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
A 1:30 p.m. service will also be given in Spanish.
The church will provide childcare for the worship services on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
“The resurrection of Christ after his death is why we celebrate Easter on Sunday,” said church spokeswoman Linda Holland.
The church’s common goal is “to tell as many people as possible about Jesus Christ and the new life that can be experienced through knowing him.”
First United Methodist Church
First United Methodist Church, located in Canton at 930 Lower Scott Mill Road, also has some events planned to celebrate Easter.
The church has three morning services this Sunday at 8:15, 9:30 and 11.
For Maundy Thursday, the church will have a 7 p.m. communion service in the sanctuary.
On Good Friday, the church will have a devotion and lunch at 12:05 p.m. and then a service later on at 7. A choir will also perform an Easter musical.
Led by its youth, the church’s Easter services will begin with sunrise at 7 a.m. There will then be a traditional and a contemporary service at 9 a.m. followed by two 11 a.m. traditionals.
Pastor Ed Towers wants the focus of his church’s Easter services to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.
“Our service recognizes when the women went to the tomb of Jesus and found out he wasn’t there,” he says.
The pastor hopes to pass on to his congregation the church’s intent with Easter.
“Easter Sunday is a celebration,” he said. “Jesus was raised from the dead, and he is alive. He died to pay for our sins, and we are celebrating his resurrection and the fact that he lives with us now.”
First Baptist Church in Canton
Also located in Canton, off One Mission Point, First Baptist Church has services planned for Holy Week.
On Maundy Thursday, the church has a “Victory in Jesus” service from 10 a.m. to noon in classroom 117.
For Good Friday, there will be a Full Passover Seder meal with Murray Tillis from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fellowship Hall 126.
To wrap up the Holy Week celebrations, the church’s Easter special will be called “He Lives!” with services at 8:15, 9:30, and 11 a.m.
Special guest speaker Tony Nolan will preach for all three services in the Worship Center.
The 8:15 worship service is traditional and will feature hymns, piano and organ, along with ministry opportunities for preschoolers.
The 9:30 and 11 a.m. services will be contemporary and will have a choir, praise team and band/orchestra.
Canton Community Church
Some others include the annual celebrationby Canton Community Church, which will celebrate the 34th Easter Sunrise Worship Service at Cherokee Memorial Park on Sunday, March 31, at 7 a.m.. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Mausoleum. Cherokee Memorial Park is located at 120 Memorial Drive in Canton.
Orange United Methodist Church
Orange United Methodist Church will have Good Friday Services March 29 at 7 p.m.; an Easter Egg Hunt March 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Easter Sunrise Service March 31 at 7 a.m.; Easter Sunday Breakfast March 31 at 8 a.m. and Easter Sunday Service at 11 a.m. Orange UMC is located at 220 Orange Church Circle in Lathemtown.
Waleska First Baptist Church
Waleska First Baptist Church Choir and Drama Team will present “Amazing Grace” on Easter Sunday at 11 a.m.. The church is located at 10657 Fincher Road, Waleska.
St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church
St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic church will hold Easter season services, including Family Outdoor Stations of the Cross on March 27 at 7 p.m., preceeded by a free spaghetti dinner in the Parish Hall at 6 p.m. On March 28, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 7 p.m., with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Day Chapel until 10 p.m.; Good Friday services including Outdoor Stations of the Cross at noon, the Seven Last Words at 1 p.m. at the church, Outdoor Stations of the Cross in Spanish at 3 p.m. and Good Friday Service at 7 p.m.; Easter Vigil Mass on March 30 at 8 p.m.; Easter Sunday passes at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Spanish. Union Hill United Methodist Church
Union Hill United Methodist Church will hold a Palm Sunday Service on Sunday at 11a.m. A Station of the Cross to come walk with Jesus is on March 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. and March 29 from 12 to 6 p.m. Easter Sunday will begin at a sunrise service at 6:45 a.m. and continue with an Easter Service is March 31 at 11 a.m. Union Hill United Methodist Church is located at 2000 A J Land Road in Canton.
Sixes United Methodist Church
Sixes United Methodist Church will have a Good Friday Service on March 29 at 7 p.m. The solemn service focuses on sin and the need for the sacrificial death of Christ. Sixes United Methodist Church will offer four services on Easter Sunday on March 31 at 6:30 a.m. Sunrise Service, a short but powerful outdoor service, watching the rising of the sun to celebrate the rising of God’s Son. Easter Worship Celebrations are at 8:30, 9:45, and 11 a.m. The worship features a combination of traditional hymns and modern praise songs, plus the use of multimedia and Biblically-based messages. The church is located at 8385 Bells Ferry Road in Canton.
Bascomb United Methodist Church
Bascomb United Methodist Church will include a live drama for the Maundy Thursday service on March 28 at 7 p.m. This production is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. Easter morning services include a sunrise service at 7 a.m., a contemporary service at 9 a.m., and a traditional service at 11 a.m. on Easter morning. The church is located at 2295 Bascomb Carmel Road in Woodstock.
