Department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan tells the Chattanooga Times-Free Press manual locks have been installed on cell doors at Hays State Prison in Trion. Acting warden Rick Jacobs says a permanent solution will take more time at the maximum security prison facility about 90 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
Authorities say 200 homemade knives and nearly 140 illegal cellphones have been removed from the facility since January. Two corrections officers were also attacked by inmates at the prison on Jan. 27, and another inmate was killed the day he was being transferred to another facility.
