A seven-vehicle collision Friday morning near Georgia National Cemetery only caused minor injuries to all drivers and passengers, according to officials.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the wreck on Knox Bridge Highway about 10:30 a.m. near the entrance of the veterans’ cemetery.
“When emergency service personnel arrived on scene, they found seven vehicles involved in the accident,” Cherokee Fire spokesman Tim Cavender said.
The accident involved a Kia Optima, BMW, Toyota, Scion, Nissan Maxima, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla and Ford pickup truck, Cavender said.
“The Kia, BMW and Toyota Corolla had major damage and the others sustained minor damages,” Cavender said. “Fortunately, the drivers and passengers only sustained minor injuries.”
Cavender said the driver and passenger in the BMW were heading to a memorial service at the cemetery and were taken by responders to the services after they provided statements to Georgia State Patrol.
Both lanes of Knox Bridge Highway were blocked during cleanup and one lane was later reopened for traffic.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
