CANTON — The Georgia Department of Transportation is reporting that the long, labor-intensive process of constructing truck passing lanes and realigning intersections on Highway 20 is nearing completion.

Mohamed Arafa, a communications officer with GDOT, said Wednesday that the project, which broke ground in late 2010, is “95 to 96 percent complete.”

“We’re working on what we call the final touches,” Arafa said.

The undertaking is a 4.3-mile construction project to add truck passing lanes to the high-traffic corridor from its intersection from Union Hill Road to Greenwood Court east of Highway 369.

Now almost three years in, Arafa said GDOT is almost ready to put a ribbon on it and let frustrated drivers once again travel without road work slowing them down.

“The completion date is the end of July,” Arafa said. “We may be lucky to announce that it will be completed slightly ahead of schedule, if we get some cooperation from the weather.”

The final cost for the construction, Arafa said, will be $7.6 million.

Who does Mr. Arafa of GDOT think he is kidding ???

There hasn't been anyone working anywhere along the 7 mile construction zone of GA 20 for almost a month now --- even before it started raining ...

Stop misleading the residents and start managing the road projects -- Based on the amount of new lanes and minor enhancements that were created (in the wrong places), the GA 20 project should have be completed in a year -- not three !!!!
