Ed. Note: In the following article, the headline and article indicated that the Cherokee County Board of Education was presenting the budget at the meeting May 16. In fact, the Cherokee County School Board will present the budget at the June 13 meeting, and during the Strategic Work Session this Thursday the board will present a status report on the budget preparation.

The Cherokee County Board of Education will present the superintendent’s tentative 2013-14 budget at the meeting, Thursday at 7 p.m. at the historic Canton High School/School Board Auditorium. There will be a work session prior to the meeting at 6 p.m. during which the board will hear a status report on the budget preparation, including updates on federal, state and local revenue projections. The work session and meeting are open to the public, and the board will vote to approve the budget at the July 24 meeting. The board will consider two proposals for the conversion of a Sequoyah High School classroom into a video broadcast room. The project was authorized in the Five Year Plan and is estimated to cost approximately $400,000. Also on the agenda are three considerations of revisions to board policy, including board officers, board and school superintendent relations and board meeting agendas. The board will also consider consider recommendations, resignations, transfers and terminations. Following the public meeting there will be an executive session involving a student discipline matter.
