The Macedonia Community/Water Tank Road Neighborhood Watch had a meeting Wednesday to hear the plans for a proposed crematorium and discuss potential coming to Highway 20, which runs through the community.

Bart Williams, a representative from Macedonia Memorial Cemetery, discussed the cemetery’s upcoming zoning request, which would allow them to build a crematorium and change the entrance to their cemetery, said Ann Earley of the neighborhood watch.

Williams fielded questions from residents on “possible runoff problems, hours of operation and environmental effects,” Earley said.

Tom Earley, a member of the Canton to Cumming Citizen Advisory Committee, said the hearing with the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is set for June 4th.

Hey also reviewed the Highway 20 construction project with residents.

Earley said Friday that both he and his wife, Ann, were selected to be on the 12-member citizen committee.

The GDOT has charged them with the task of polling residents about what changes they would like to see made to the 25-mile stretch of Highway 20 between Canton and Cumming, he said.
