Mr. Charles Adkerson, Jr., 82, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Embracing Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, June 8, 2013 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken May officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Memorial Park. From humble beginnings in and around Waleska, Ga. during the Depression, Charles eventually revealed his artistic talents through his woodworking and oil paintings. He received recognition over the years for his ability to create fine hand-carved furniture and musical instruments. His artwork found its way into the homes of celebrities such as Perry Como and even in the White House during the Jimmy Carter era. He also was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Adkerson was preceded in death by his son, Danny Adkerson. Survivors include his wife Wanda Parker of Canton; son, Larry Adkerson of Houston, TX; daughters, Joan Puckett of Canton and Gail Puckett of Doraville; step children, Wesley Parker of Woodstock and Christie Parker of Broomfield, CO; sister, Winnie Blanton of Canton; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
