Dr. Scott O’Prey accepted the Charter Schools USA job offer Friday to become the new principal at CCA. O’Prey has been in the education field for 28 years and has served in multiple roles including principal, director for schools social workers, assistant principal, grade-level principal and social studies principal at schools in Georgia and Texas.
“Mr. O’Prey’s extensive and varied experience at all levels is a tremendous asset to Cherokee Charter Academy,” said Vice President of Education for CSUSA Billie Miller. “His dedication to the success of every student and strong community involvement will ensure a smooth transition for the students and parents.”
On Thursday, board member Lyn Michaels-Carden said CSUSA issued the offer after the local governing board voted unanimously to
recommend that CSUSA make the offer
O’Prey has a Bachelor of Arts in secondary social studies from the state University of New York and a Master of Education in administration from Sam Houston State University in Texas. He also has a Doctor of Education in administration and supervision from the University of Houston in Texas.
Vanessa Suarez, CCA’s first principal, announced in April that she would be transferring to a charter school in Florida at the conclusion of the school year.
