School board battle is political chess match

In my personal opinion, Kelly Marlowe was elected to the Cherokee County School District Board by her constituents to ask the questions she has been asking, and waiting for forthright answers.

I also think that the existing regime (administrative personnel and board members) don’t particularly want to respond to questions that their answers will then become a part of the permanent record, so they, like Washington, are going on a search and destroy mission.

Rather than answer the initial questions, they decided to attack, belittle, etc., anything to divert from answering the hard questions. Now it’s nothing more than a he said, she said, pointing fingers and using phrases like personal threats, uncomfortable, innuendo, etc.

I think Kelly Marlow or Barbara Jacoby or Janet Read or Dr. Frank Petruzielo or Robert Trim, and/or whoever else is involved, or wants to jump into the fray, should sue the appropriate adversaries, get all this into court where proceedings will include discovery, depositions, etc. and where people are under oath, and then maybe we will get some truth.

Dr. P was brought in 12 to 15 years ago to facilitate change in the direction we were headed at the time, and then be replaced, at least that’s what I remember the plan to be. Instead he has remained, built his dynasty, spent hundreds of millions (over the total years, truly billions) of dollars building the CCSD.

He has so many layers of admin positions, that I truly think if he didn’t want to talk or leave his office or meet with the public he’d have plenty of assistants to throw under the bus, until you would finally get to him.

As for the seated CCSD board members (some, maybe most, have been in since Dr. P took office), they need to enact a transparency of information policy, and actually operate under that policy, and then vote for term limits for their positions, two terms/total of eight years maximum.

As far as I can tell there is no oversight, or checks and balances on this dynasty, other than their own internal review, and that’s like letting the patients running the asylum.

As for the accreditation concerns, let AdvancEd come in and do their thing. They won’t have the final word, put their input/findings as an adjunct to what may come out in court proceedings will probably be both interesting and enlightening.

I hope all concerned get good advice as this sickening “Chess Match in Politics” continues.

I will assume, Mr. Veal, that you do not have a child attending high school in this county at this time. The consequences of Ms. Marlow's rogue actions are very real for my family and my high school Junior. I am confident SACS will find no wrong-doing by CCSD. What concerns me is that Ms. Marlow's selfish act of reporting our Board to SACS has put our accreditation at risk. In-fighting at the Board level could mean probation and while that is different from "non-accredited" it still harms my child who has been educated in Cherokee County public schools since 2002.

I am all for transparency and challenging the status quo - that is why I voted for Ms. Marlow in November. I am extremely disappointed in the mean-spirited and inflammatory actions she has put forth to forward her agenda.

What are the "tough questions" and accusations that Kelly Marlow is petitioning for? From all that I have read there have been accusations without evidence. If she indeed wants to be transparent then lay out the questions asked and the accusations.

People value CCSD and we all have a vested interest in the betterment of our children and it angers us when this is disrupted with no evidence.

Please post in the comments what specifically Kelly Marlow has been asking for and why and what evidence she has that the school board cannot effectively govern. Without this information being made public Kelly Marlow is making a fool of herself and our County.
