WOODSTOCK — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a Woodstock High School student whose body was found Friday morning at his friends’ apartment in Woodstock.

Sheriff’s deputies found the body of a 16-year-old Woodstock boy at the Terraces at Towne Lake apartment on Towne Lake Hills South Drive complex at about 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen’s name is being withheld at this time, Baker said.

Baker said the boy was at the apartment visiting his friends who are renters at the complex.

Baker said there was “not a party at the apartment where he died.”

Detectives do however believe alcohol may have played a part in the death.

“Preliminary indications are that the teen was highly intoxicated,” Baker said.

As part of the investigation, an autopsy on the body is scheduled for Saturday morning at the GBI crime lab, Baker said.

The investigation is ongoing.

“Detectives are investigating the events that took place prior to his death. There have been several persons questioned and more left to question,” Baker said. “No charges have been filed.”

There was no trauma to the teen’s body, Baker said.
