Hardee's evacuated after fryer catches fire in Pooler

POOLER, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say employees were forced to evacuate a Hardee's in southeast Georgia after the restaurant's fryer caught fire.

WJCL-TV reports the fire broke out before dawn Tuesday at the eatery in Pooler a few miles west of Savannah. Firefighters quickly arrived to find smoke pouring from the restaurant's roof and doors.

Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons says no one was injured and a quick response by employees allowed firefighters to contain and extinguish it within about five minutes of arriving.

The fire chief says the Hardee's may have to stay closed through Wednesday to allow for necessary cleanup and repairs.

Clayton County teen fatally shot during armed robbery

FOREST PARK, Ga. (AP) — Clayton County police say a 13-year-old boy has died after being shot during an armed robbery in Forest Park.

Authorities say two men in an SUV approached Steven Galindo as he was putting air in his sister's tire Monday night. Officials say they demanded the keys to the woman's car and all of their other belongings.

Police say Galindo's sister gave one of the suspects her keys and the other man tried starting the woman's car. Authorities say the car didn't start and one of the suspects began shooting at the woman's vehicle. Galindo and his sister tried running from the suspects but police say the teen was wounded and later died at a local hospital.

Investigators are speaking with Galindo's relatives to try forming a description of the suspects.

2 teens injured in fall at Stone Mountain park

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) — Police say two teenage boys have been hospitalized with serious injuries after they fell several hundred feet from a cliff at Stone Mountain Park.

Park spokesman John Bankhead tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the boys were in a restricted area on the back side of the park when they fell.

Bankhead says the most seriously injured teen was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center and the second teen was taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center. The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately clear. Bankhead says a 12-year-old who was with them was not injured.

Bankhead says there are signs telling visitors to stay out of the restricted area and the children were at the park with one of their fathers.
