DEAR EDITOR:

Unfortunately, the House Farm Bill currently includes dangerous language that is powerful enough to overrule dozens of state animal protection laws.

The provision, introduced by Iowa Republican Steve King, could leave countless animals unprotected as the laws being threatened include those protecting dogs in puppy mills, farmed animals, and even sharks.

As a result, I am asking Sen. Saxby Chambliss to please work with his colleagues to protect these animals and prevent the “King amendment” from becoming a permanent section of the bill.

Especially given the fact that Sen. Chambliss will be in the deciding conference committee, he has the opportunity to stand up for these animals and work to remove the provision from the final version of the House farm bill.
