Cherokee High School will play host to the Georgia Middle School Athletic Association Kick-Off Classic for the second straight year, when the event visits Tommy Baker Field on Aug. 17.

The action, featuring several of the state’s top middle school football programs, will kick off at 9 a.m. in a jamboree format for grades 6-8, with eighth-grade teams from 9-11 a.m, sixth-grade from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and seventh-grade from 1-3 p.m. Each team will face two opponents in their division.

Teams expected to attend this year are Woodstock, Riverwood, Johns Creek, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Marietta, River Ridge and Sequoyah.

In each of the grade divisions, Woodstock will face Riverwood and Johns Creek. River Ridge will first face Chattahoochee and Centennial, while Sequoyah will play Centennial first, before meeting Chattahoochee.

The event will end with Cherokee facing Roswell in a series of scrimmages. The sixth-grade game will be at 3:30 p.m., followed by the seventh-grade game at 5:30 p.m. and eighth-grade at 7:30 p.m.

“It’s not just for the families of the players, but for the whole community,” Cherokee Warrior Touchdown Club member Duane Graham said.

Concessions will be available, and admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.
