Engle among picks from Gridiron Club

Etowah’s Brandon Engle rolled up nearly 300 rushing yards in the Eagles’ 41-14 victory over Centennial last Friday and was named the team’s offensive player of the week by the Cherokee County Gridiron Club.

Engle’s total included two touchdown runs in excess of 80 yards.

James Arnold was Etowah’s top defensive player, while Jagger Laird was recognized for his contributions on special teams.

From Cherokee, Michael Bean was named the defensive player of the week, while Brandon Hrouda won the award for special teams. Both players have now won the award in two straight games.

Blake Johnston scored two touchdowns for Cherokee and was named the offensive player of the week after the Warriors’ victory over Sequoyah.

The honorees from Creekview were Cameron Kyle (offense), Logan Ridings (defense) and Ben McClellan (special teams).

For Sequoyah, Brian Exley (offense), Peter Rohan (defense) and Austin Brown (special teams) earned the weekly awards.

Woodstock’s Donavan Brand (offense), Jean Boereau (defense) and Ethan Wheeler (special teams) were singled out for their play against Kell.

River Ridge did not submit any players to be recognized.
