A 17-year-old Canton girl was killed early Friday morning after being ejected from her truck on Highway 20, police said.

Cheyenne Gabrielle Heard died around 3:30 a.m. after she ran off the road and hit a culvert, a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson said Friday.

The GPS spokesperson said Heard, the only person in the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, was not wearing a seatbelt.

“She was fatally injured and transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital,” the spokesperson said.

A spokeswoman for the Cherokee County School System said the victim was a senior at Creekview High School.

Creekview High School has extra counselors to assist students today and a letter will be going home with students today, said Barbara Jacoby, spokeswoman for the school system.
