An Acworth woman is in police custody after allegedly stabbing her son’s girlfriend with a pocket knife.

Darlene Fowler, 57, was arrested Sunday night in Acworth after reportedly stabbing Megan Phillips, 33, said Lt. Jamie Gianfala, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The stabbing reportedly took place about 8 p.m. at the suspect’s home on the 1400 block of Oak Lane after Phillips and her boyfriend had been arguing all day, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

The police report states that Fowler got involved in the arguments by shouting insults at her son’s girlfriend and eventually charging at her with the pocket knife, which went into her lower back.

Before being arrested, Fowler claimed she thought she was having a heart attack and fell to the ground as a deputy questioned her, police said. She was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Gianfala said Fowler’s trip to the hospital was a “precautionary” measure.

A search of Fowler’s purse turned up with two knives and two razor blade containers, the police report states.

She is charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $22,200 bond.
