DEAR EDITOR:

Over the last five months I have sat back and silently watched as the reputation of Kelly Marlow and our family get maligned with vicious unfounded attacks on our personal lives. After what I witnessed during the so-called hearing to punish and embarrass her, I can no longer sit idly by while our family is viciously attacked.

While I understand people are angry for their perceived ideas on the wrongdoing of Kelly Marlow, I find it abhorrent that SCRAM! would allow malicious, unfounded and borderline slanderous remarks regarding our family. I am married to Tom Salata and Kelly Marlow is my sister-in-law, and I am proud to be a part of this family.

Last night I witnessed truly disgusting remarks and veiled threats made about my family, and I can no longer sit by idly while we are attacked. If your family member needed your support wouldn’t you be there for them?

We are a close family and we stand united when any one of us need anything, but what we didn’t expect was the cyberbullying that has taken place. Does it make the members of this group feel better by making comments about my deceased in-laws?

Look at Facebook SCRAM! page for the following thread “Anyone feeling sorry for Tom and Kelly’s parents?” started by Anita Anderson Nations. Had Ms. Nations done her research, like all of these scrammers say they do, she would have known that Tom and Kelly’s parents have passed away!

I am sickened, disgusted and most of all frightened by this behavior. They have made comments about Kelly’s children, my wonderful niece and nephew, these are children who do not need to be dragged into this situation, my husband and my in-laws when this has become personal attack on the Marlow-Salata family!

They are now rallying and organizing the demise of Mr. Geist because he voted for Kelly. That equates to bullying and a mob mentality.

As much as I stand by my sister-in-law, I fear for the safety of our family. I am aware that Kelly Marlow’s personal safety has been threatened during school board meetings. I am aware that this hate group has pilfered her name, which is a crime called cyber-squatting.

I am all for free speech for everyone, including the people in SCRAM!, however, when people take it to the level of name calling and misrepresenting facts we move away from free speech.

This county has made their point with Kelly last night, now it is time for everyone to stop this hate. Passion for a cause is a wonderful thing, but it crosses the line when the passion maligns a family with no substantiating facts.

I offered screenshots regarding the posts made about my in-laws, the comments regarding my niece and nephew and my husband why didn't Ms. Rhea want them? I am sorry your group can not understand that I went to your Admins first requesting the comments be removed, but only after I wrote this letter did I ever get a response. I only asked that the posts regarding my niece and nephew, my in-laws, and the comments that were slanderous about my husband be taken down. Nobody has the right to threaten my husband's right to practice law because he defended his sister. (Yes I have the screenshot of that as well). Bar complaints are a serious threat to the license my husband worked hard for......if saying horrible things about us makes you feel better then carry on.

Ms. Salata ALL members of SCRAM are not out researching into Kelly Marlow's private life. Most of us are more concerned with her actions as a board member. That is what is researched. Most we're unaware of the passing of your inlaws. The comment made was taken out of context.

Mrs. Salata before you come into our community with your attacks and misinformation it would be helpful if you were to do your homework first. You took a comment made as a simple observation or opinion and manipulated to sound as though it was an attack on your deceased in laws. I would suggest googling your sister in law's name to read all about the path of destruction she has carved in our community and then ask yourself how you would feel if you had a Kelly Marlow doing this to your school district in Forsyth County.

These accusations are simply not true. SCRAM! is a group of concerned parents, citizens, CCSD employees and teachers whose only concern is for all of the students of Cherokee County. There may be heated debate and active discussion on SCRAM's FB page, but NEVER would these alleged things be said. Truly sorry Kelly's family is having a tough time through all of this, they don't deserve the pain this is putting them through. But Kelly "kicked the Hornet's Nest" as she so loves to say and she now suffers the consequences of her actions. If she would have just raise her concerns in the normal way, like the rest of the Board, she may be able to get something done. But she refuses to play by the rules. And there ARE rules, as is evident by the outcome of her Ethics Hearing. Maybe now she will and things will calm down.

Nothing could be further from the truth re: SCRAM. Here is a post found there - wonder why it wasn't included in Ms. Salata's article? Oh yeah, because it's the truth... "Just wanted to point out a couple things:

1) There were no SCRAM shirts seen in the audience, yet Kelly Anfuso wanted to pass out the "Dr. P works for me" tshirts - against the requests of the hearing officer to not show partisanship. 2) The hearing officer stated that there would be no comments or outbursts from the audience. The ONLY time he had to remind the audience of this was when Dooley and her crowd applauded after Salata's closing argument. I think this speaks to the civility and respect of the parties involved. Way to keep it classy, SCRAMmers!"

I have to say that I have felt nothing but a sense of community being involved with SCRAM. It's an organized group of people with a common goal to ensure a positive academic environment for our children, and the children of our community. Everything Ms Marlow has done since she won the election has seemed to undermine that. Her questions have been answered, she just hasn't liked the answers.

Before you rush to judge the people of this community I would suggest you take the time to review what we have endured from your sister in law for the last nine months. Her behavior at school board meetings can be viewed by watching the meeting videos available on the district website. It's hard to believe that you have missed the media coverage detailing her antics but links to most of the coverage can be found at www.kellymarlow.org

The majority of Cherokee County residents want her to resign from the school board but she refuses to do so. We are determined to get her off of our school board before her antics lead to a loss of accreditation of our school district. If her felony charges don't lead to her removal we will have her recalled. She could avoid all of this and save you and your family from further embarrassment by resigning but none of us are holding our breath waiting for that to happen.

Mrs. Salata, I understand blindly supporting a family member, but when you speak out to attack a group of concerned parents and citizens you should at least try to get all of the facts, not just your sister in law's version.

Your sister in law is a one woman wrecking crew and she is on a mission to destroy an award winning school district. One that I might add, her children do not attend. This has been an ongoing process from day one when she took office and after nine months we as a community have lost patience in dealing with her antics. When SCRAM was first formed we started a petition asking her to rescind her letter to AdvancedEd/SACS. I think we were more reasonable than she deserved.

I went on the Scram Facebook page and was shocked at how vicious the comments are. With a little research I found that some of the most out spoken are Democrats and one is the Chairman of the Cherokee County Democrat Party. Now I understand why they are so obsessed with recalling Ms Marlow.
