Questions raised about forensic audit

Thursday’s Tribune article reported Cherokee Board of Commissioners approved yet another increase for the auditor of the Resource Recovery Development Authority, bringing the cost to $495,673, over six times the original $75,000 bid.

This latest increase was apparently discussed with the district attorney and commissioners and then passed unanimously with remarks on how generous the auditor was to ask for only this much.

Why does Shannon Wallace refuse to release the audit to WSB-TV, who requested a copy, or to the citizens who paid for the audit? And who other than the commissioners gave Ms. Wallace the authority to view and hide this audit?

Release the documents to the FBI and sheriff who can investigate and bring charges quickly.

All of the documents used to compile this audit are subject to open records.

Yet the document created from these documents is somehow exempt from open records?

The auditor was to tell us if the commissioners’ approval of RRDA draws without a system for checking on completed work was legal.

Now the auditor gets approval for her increases from the commissioners without any documentation proving why such increases are valid.

And why pay for the auditor’s attorney when she had full access to our DA for legal questions.

Release the audit and the auditor’s increase requests so we can at least know why we paid six times over the bid amount.

Ms. Wallace, will the audit be released before the Commissioners’ next election?
