CANTON — Those who want to sample the best that local restaurants have to offer can come out to the 13th annual Taste of Canton today from 5 to 8 p.m.

Last year, 2,000 people were in attendance and a large crowd is expected for this year’s event.

The event is at Cannon Park across from the white marble courthouse, and tickets are $5 and $10.

“The Taste of Canton is a fun, family-oriented event that showcases the different culinary opportunities in our area,” said Meghan Griffin, Canton Main Street director.

The event is sponsored by Canton Tourism and the Canton Main Street Program, and features cuisine from more than a dozen local restaurants.

“This is the 13th year for the Taste of Canton and we are hoping it is the best one yet. We have lots of returning restaurants and some new participants this year, so there will be something for everyone,” Griffin said.

Among the restaurants participating this year are Downtown Kitchen, Goin’ Coastal: A Sustainable Seafood Joint, Moe’s Southwest Grill, The Painted Pig Tavern and Provino’s Italian Restaurant.

Others are Angelfire 7 Barbecue, Cookies & Crumbs, Scott Boys Barbecue, Sidelines Grille, Which Wich Superior Sandwiches and Williamson Brothers Barbecue.

“The Taste of Canton is made possible through the support of our local restaurants and vendors, it wouldn’t happen without their excitement for this event and their passion for sharing what they do with their customers,” Griffin said.

The Taste offers local restaurants and food merchants an opportunity to promote their business and specialty items to a receptive audience for three hours, Griffin said.

Tickets will be sold in full and half taste, at $10 and $5 respectively, so that every visitor can select the one most appropriate for them, she said.

For information call Griffin at (770) 704-1548.
