The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is asking that all cars abandoned during Tuesday’s winter storm be removed from roadways by 4 p.m. today. If you have a vehicle that has been abandoned please start making plans to move it. At 4 p.m. today any vehicles that are abandoned on the roadway blocking the flow of traffic will be towed for the safety of other motorist,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jay Baker said in a release Thursday. “The combination of above freezing temperatures and direct sunlight should begin improving road conditions today.” Baker said that more and more people are beginning to drive the roadways and as the ice clears vehicle speeds are going to increase. “It is imperative that abandoned vehicles be removed as soon as possible. Arrangements for the removal of vehicles abandoned off the roadway should also be made but at this point they will not be towed,” he said. Residents whose vehicles are towed can call 678-493-4080 to see where they were taken, he said.
