The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has called off a search for a missing 65-year-old man with dementia, who has been found safe.

Terry Dean Spillman, of Canton, had been missing from his Lakeside Drive home since Saturday at 3 p.m. but was found safe in Elijay on Monday afternoon, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Baker said Spillman was reported missing Sunday by his roommate, who told police Spillman had mentioned in the past about returning to Missouri where he used to live.

Spillman left his cell phone at home, Baker added.
