No foul play is suspected in the drowning death of an elderly Acworth woman found Thursday in the Waldan Pond apartment complex, police said.

Betty West, 74, of Acworth, was found dead in a pond inside the Waldan Pond apartment complex, said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

“The investigation is still ongoing but currently no foul play is suspected,” Baker said Monday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted an autopsy Saturday at its crime lab, and preliminary results indicated West died of drowning, Baker said.

West lived in the apartment complex off Bells Ferry Road, and was found in the pond behind the apartment buildings by another resident, Baker said.

A wide crime scene was blocked off Thursday afternoon beside the pond where the body was found and Cherokee Sheriff’s Officers were canvasing the nearby apartment buildings.

Baker said the death is still under investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
