Prep Roundup: Etowah, Creekview play to tennis tie

The Etowah and Creekview girls tennis teams were left with a 2-all draw Wednesday, with the county rivals unable to complete their final singles match before darkness set in.

Etowah got its wins from Nikki Gilner at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Alisa Cruickshank and Madeline Gilner. Both wins were by straight sets.

Creekview’s Emily Fraysier won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, while the No. 2 doubles team of Alexis Pache and Olivia Rowland also prevailed. Pache and Rowland needed a third-set super tiebreaker to prevail, which they did by a 13-11 margin.

Etowah (2-0) will travel to Roswell today for a Region 5AAAAAA match. Creekview (0-2) will host Region 7AAAAA rival Cambridge today.

Sequoyah 4, Forsyth Central 1: The Lady Chiefs swept the singles points to pick up the Region 7AAAAA victory.

Taylor Dodd, Morgan Dodd and Amanda Sarkady dominated singles play, only allowing three games between them.

The No. 1 doubles team of Rachel Weaver and Maddie Miller won 6-2, 6-4.

Sequoyah (2-0, 1-0) will host Riverwood for another region match today.


Etowah 10, West Forsyth 6:
Victory Stairs scored six times and Alexia Audet added three goals of her own as the Lady Eagles opened the season with a victory for first-year coach Andy Osborn.

Audet also had a pair of assists in the game, while goalkeeper Caylin Roszina made eight saves for Etowah (1-0), which will have to face perennial champion Milton on the road today.

Late Tuesday

River Ridge 12, Forsyth Central 7:
Sierra Haas scored a game-high five goals as the Lady Knights won the non-area game.

Mary Graham added four goals, while Avery Blackmon, Lilli Mansell and Zoe Richards each had one.

River Ridge (1-1) will travel to Woodstock today.


Late Monday

River Ridge 3, Sequoyah 1:
Brooke DeSantis scored a pair of first-half goals, setting the Lady Knights on to a win over their county rival.

Kristian Leone added the eventual capper in the second half. Jessica Anthony and Aubrey Wooten had assists.

River Ridge (1-1) will host Class AAAAAA Kennesaw Mountain on Friday.
