Nominations now being accepted for fifth annual Browning Award in Hickory Flat

HICKORY FLAT—Nominations are being accepted for the fifth annual Carter and Elizabeth Browning Award. The award was established to honor the couple’s service in the Hickory Flat community.

The late Carter Browning served as the principal at Hickory Flat Elementary for 24 years, while his wife served the same length of time as the school media specialist.

The committee would like to receive nominations of individuals or a group that has made a significant impact on the Hickory Flat community. Those nominated may be deceased or living.

Past recipients have included: W.O. and Mattie Rhodes, Ty and Betty Adams, Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department, George Lingefelt, William Garrett, Horace and Florence Clark, Fred and Louise Haley, Ronnie Holbert, Wayne and Ann Sims, John and Bunky Bowden, Ronald and Betty Page and the Thomas/Pinyan families.

Nomination forms may be picked up in the Hickory Flat church offices or contact Linda Statham at (770) 475-9214 to receive one by mail or email. The deadline for receipt of the nominations is April 3.

The award ceremony is planned for April 24 at 7 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church on Sugar Pike Road and is open to the public.
