WOODSTOCK — “Treasure Island or Who’s Got the Map?” is coming to Elm Street Theatre in Woodstock.
A comic re-telling of the Robert Louis Stevenson adventure pitting young Jim Hawkins and his friends against Long John Silver and some wacky pirates.
The play tells the tale of when Captain Billy Bones kicks the bucket, and he leaves his old trunk to Jim who finds a treasure map inside. With the help of Squire Trelawney, Dr. Livesey and Captain Smollet, they decide to hire a ship and follow the map. The squire’s daughter, Helen, wants to go along and disguises herself as a boy so she can join their adventure. Unfortunately, they unwittingly hire Long John Silver and the former crew of the infamous pirate, Flint, to help sail the Hispaniola.
As they are sailing, Jim overhears the pirate plot, led by Long John Silver, to steal the map and take over the ship. The fearless good guys find themselves hiding out on the island where they meet the mysterious and cheese loving Bernie Gunn and native sidekick, Amber Dancing Deer.
The pirates use the map but even though x marks the spot, the treasure is gone. Turns out the marooned Bernie had moved the treasure ages ago. During a comic battle, the good guys prevail and the pirates run away.
