CANTON — Cherokee Theatre Company brings a soundtrack full of Broadway hits to Canton this weekend with the opening of “Comedy Tonight” — a revue of some of the funniest songs from the best shows on Broadway.

Creating “Comedy Tonight” was a labor of love, said director Ralph Zaffino.

The process started in June 2013 with the selection of the 25 songs that will be used during the show. Creating fun musical revues is not new for Cherokee Theatre Company, but this year they took a new approach in creating the show, Zaffino said.

“Early on, I had decided that creating a recorded soundtrack would provide a more professional accompaniment track than just having piano accompaniment,” said Zaffino when talking about how this production would be different from what audiences had experienced before.

Cherokee native Carol Wazlavek and husband Richard worked hard on creating soundtrack for the production, he said.

“The clean, high quality sound of the show will be a treat for audiences.” Zaffino said.

Audiences will enjoy laughing and humming along to tunes from Broadway favorites such as “Wicked,” “Book of Mormon,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Bye Bye Birdie,” all performed by a talented local cast.

The cast includes Beth Ball, Andy Fowler, Chris Grass, Eliot Grimier, Isaac Kelley, Cheryl Lambert, Henley Stephan, and Julie Turner.

Tickets are on sale at www.cherokeetheatre.org or by calling the box office at (770) 591-0282.

Performance dates are March 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $15. The senior/student rate is $12 and the group rate for 10 or more seats is $10. Performances will be at 171 East Main St.
