Prep Roundup: Etowah boys still unbeaten at 8-0

Ryan Templet battled for a three-set win at No. 2 singles, helping unbeaten Etowah to a narrow 3-2 win over Lassiter on Tuesday.

Templet won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, adding onto Cole Heller’s 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3, and a 6-4, 6-2 win for the No. 1 doubles team of Jake Pollack and Taylor Barie.

Etowah (8-0, 4-0 Region 5AAAAAA) will step out of region play today, traveling to River Ridge.

Late Saturday River Ridge wins Marietta Classic: The Knights faced teams from East Coweta, Wheeler and Marietta, en route to their championship at the Marietta Classic over the weekend.

In the first round, River Ridge defeated East Coweta 5-0. Singles winners were Ben Van Hout, Clay McIntyre and Spencer Fedich. Jake Hicks and Gabe Mims were winners at No. 1 doubles, while Donovan Mohan and Matt Polley won at No. 2 doubles.

In the second round, River Ridge defeated Wheeler 4-1. The lone loss came at No. 2 singles. Van Hout and Hicks won singles matches, while A.J. Joyner teamed with Fedich for a doubles win, while Mims and Polley won at No. 2 doubles.

In the championship, River Ridge swept Marietta 5-0. Van Hout, McIntyre and Hicks each won at singles, while the double pairings of Joyner and Fedich and Mims and Polley also won easily.

River Ridge will compete in the LaGrange Invitational this weekend.


Etowah 4, Lassiter 1:
No. 1 singles was the lone blemish for the Lady Eagles in the Region 5AAAAAA match.

Singles players Sam Kaczaral and Nikki Gilner each won in straight sets, by respective margins of 6-3, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-1.

Keegan Casteel and Alisa Cruickshank won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Madeline Gilner and Madi Mewett won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

Etowah (4-2-1, 3-2) will host River Ridge today for the third of four matches in four days.

Sequoyah 3, Pope 2:
A pair of three-set victories allowed the Lady Chiefs to get the Region 7AAAAA win.

Amanda Sarkady rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while Rachel Weaver and Maddie Miller also rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Morgan Dodd had a dominating win at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.


Late Monday

Etowah beats Woodstock on playoff hole:
All square with their archrival at 158 after nine holes, the Eagles prevailed in a sudden-death playoff at the 10th hole of Towne Lake Hills Golf Club.

Four Etowah players parred No. 10, with Cole Kirkpatrick sinking the winning putt in sudden death.

Through nine holes, Nick Budd led at 35, with Jake Haggerty at 40, Josh Colley at 41 and Kirkpatrick at 42.

River Ridge 9, Cedartown 0:
The Lady Knights had no problem in the Region 7AAAA match.

Brooke DeSantis helped make sure of that, scoring a hat trick, while Alexis Lewis scored twice. Jennifer Gagnon, Deven Simpson, Arlynn Hott and Kristian Leone also scored.

River Ridge (5-2, 2-0) will travel to Jekyll Island this weekend for the Tournament of Champions, beginning play Friday with Pope John Paul II (Ala.).


Late Monday

Etowah 20, North Cobb 2:
The Lady Eagles rushed to a 16-0 lead in the first half before cruising to an Area 2AAAAAA victory.

Victoria Stairs led Etowah with eight goals and two assists. Alexia Audet added five goals and five assists, and Beth Haynes finished with four goals. Marissa Wetzler also had two assists.

Goalie Caitlyn Roszina made a pair of saves for Etowah (3-1, 2-1), which will play at Woodstock on Thursday.
