Dorothy W. McMurtry passed quietly on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Canton Nursing Center, Canton, Georgia with family at her side. She was 87 years young. Ms. McMurtry was born Dorothy Marvine Webb in White House, Tennessee on February 10, 1927, to Essie Dora Jackson Webb and Thomas Leonard Webb. She was the 4th of 5 children. In 1944, she married Walter McMurtry, USAF. They lived in Tennessee, Texas and California, finally settling in West Palm Beach, Florida with their 4 children. Ms. McMurtry began her 26 year career with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1961. After retiring, she lived quietly in Florida until her illness forced her to move closer to family in Georgia. Smiling and laughing through it all, she was a lovely person and a favorite with all she met. She will be missed. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm Monday at the Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, 127 N. Main Street, Goodlettsville, Tennessee 37072.
