Popularity of president a baffling proposition

Every time Joan and I attend Mike Byrd’s biweekly breakfasts here in our Eagle Watch community, a breakfast that continues to grow in size because of the quality speakers Mike brings to his breakfasts, many of the attendees shake their heads wondering what it is Obama has that keeps him so popular with the main stream media and much of America.

Every time his poll ratings slip, he gives a speech and he stems the downward trend. It is truly amazing how such a man, whose major claim to fame was that of a community organizer, but was never really vetted by the press, only adored, prior to his election could prove so resilient with so many people.

I think I may have recently found the answer to my question. During our latest winter storm that closed down much of the state, we watched an hourlong program on the local PBS station regarding the rise and fall of Adolph Hitler.

This film also showed how the rise and eventual total destruction of Germany was due to the Germans’ fanatical belief in Hitler; they loved him, and literally followed him until he had totally destroyed Germany and much of Western Europe. Hitler’s popularity, founded on pure propaganda created by Joseph Goebbels, a propagandist film maker, resulted in the death and destruction of nearly 50 million human beings, including 7 million Germans.

I was a teenager in high school when all of this death and destruction unfolded. Then, following the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan, I cheered in the streets of Caseville, Mich. As did every American as World War II, with all it gores, killing and maiming of millions of human beings had ended. World War II was supposed to end all wars — but it didn’t. Why do people continue to kill one another?

I have written on several occasions that ignorance is expensive. And ignorance of who we are as human beings, where we came from and of the purpose of life is truly expensive — so much so that the Germans stood by as their Jewish neighbors were gassed because of Hitler’s belief that they, the pure Germans, were a superior race.

I have often encouraged readers to read the biblical books of 2 Kings and Lamentations. Both of these books show how ignorance of what Jefferson referred to as “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” led to the total destruction of both Israel and Judah, and their eventual re-enslavement.

I often look for those biblical verses that I believe inspired America’s Founding Fathers as they crafted America’s Constitution. Article II of the Constitution reads “No person, except a natural born Citizen of the United States …, shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The Bible scripture that inspired these words is found in Deuteronomy 17:15 and reads “Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the Lord thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.”

Growing numbers of Americans now believe Obama is not America’s brother, but is a stranger amongst us, bringing with him the ideologies learned from his Kenyan communist father (out of his own book), those principles of socialistic thinking that is leading America down the same path Hitler led Germany during the 1930s and 1940s, to self-destruction. God, as we learn from the example of the ancient Israelites, will not be mocked.

Other appropriate biblical verses that fit modern America today are found in Judges 2:10-15 and read: “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: … And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. Whithersoever they went out; the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.”

Is America “distressed” today? Has God delivered America into the hands of a “spoiler?” Only time will tell.

Since the very beginning, on July 4th, 1776, US citizenship has always rested on consent. "The consent of the governed", is what Mr. Jefferson declared all US citizens to be on that day.

One has to consent to be a US Citizen. Consent to support and abide by the US Const., forms the very basis of American exceptionalism. In fact, it was the very lack of "consent" that started the American revolution. American colonials thought of themselves as free Englishmen, and like free Englishman, needed to consent to be taxed through Parliament, which ran counter to another one of Mr. Blackstone's legal opinions at the time. "NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!" became the battle cry of the revolution.

An Art. II, §I, cl. 4 natural born (US) citizen is a person who has acquired their US citizenship at birth through the natural transfer of allegiance (consent, under the cloak of allegiance of their US citizen parents, without application to positive law.

People born in the United States of non-citizen parents, even persons born of only one US citizen parent in the United States, should be required at the age of majority to declare their sole allegiance to support and abide by the US Constitution, just as the present day naturalization process requires.

Since our courts have chosen to rely on another one of Blackstone's legal opinions, which sees no difference between a natural born British subject and a natural born American citizen, they no longer require "consent" of a US citizen. As a direct consequence of this ruling, i.e., the Wong Kim Ark decision, even the offspring of illegal aliens are now viewed as Art. II, §I, cl. 4 natural born citizens and have the right to take the oath of office of the President of the United States if elected.

It is precisely these types of poorly formulated and supremely bigoted 'articles' that continue to reinforce images of a 'backward, irrational, and utterly imbecilic South.' Donald Conkey's invocation of Biblical scripture is spurious at best. If ever the Cherokee Tribune possessed an esteemed reputation, publishing material such as this only aids in devaluing the organizations credibility.

1)The invocation of Hitler in a discussion of President Obama is the first warning sign of incompetence.

2)Our founding fathers were not supreme pillars of morality whose example we are beholden to. A grade-school history course reveals as much.

3)The author has lost all sanity by continuing to perpetuate the 'Birther' circus sideshow.

4)Aren't we lucky that the Bible is metaphor and not a history book!
