A sweep of the doubles matches allowed the Etowah boys to escape Kennesaw Mountain with a 3-2 win Wednesday.

Kevin Mendes and Ryan Templet won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while Jake Pollack and Taylor Barie had an easier road at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Cole Heller provided the Eagles’ third point, through his 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Etowah (12-2) will be off until it travels to Hillgrove on April 8, before it then resumes the Region 5AAAAAA tournament.

Late Tuesday

River Ridge 2, Cass 1:
Brooke DeSantis scored twice in the second half, including the eventual game-winner.

After the teams went scoreless through the first half, DeSantis gave River Ridge (8-3-1, 4-0) the lead before Cass answered with a goal of its own.

Ultimately, though, the Lady Knights prevailed when DeSantis rebounded a save from the Cass goalkeeper and put it into the net.

River Ridge will step out of region play today to host Cherokee.

Late Tuesday

Milton 20, Woodstock 4:
Jenna Carr scored two goals to lead the Lady Wolverines’ effort in the Area 2AAAAAA game.

Jaclyn Chiesa added a goal and an assist, and Kalin Bagwell scored a goal as well.

Vienna Monte made 17 saves for Woodstock (3-5).
