Canton and Woodstock are both celebrating First Friday today with happenings in the downtown area.

In Canton, the theme for the May First Friday is a beach party, complete with the Surf Boys: A Beach Boys Tribute Band, beach ball volleyball, a limbo contest, and food and fun.

The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cannon Park in downtown Canton.

For Woodstock, this month’s theme is “Dos de Mayo.” It is also from 6 to 9 p.m.

Participating downtown merchants will have activities going on at their stores and throughout the downtown area related to the theme of the month, said Kyle Bennett, director of tourism & visitors center operations.

A mariachi band will be performing during the event as they stroll around Downtown, Bennett said.

Artist Kristina Laurendi Havens will have her Woodstock Vignettes painting Series on display at Dean’s Store. The series features 36 unique scenes of Downtown Woodstock. The paintings will be auctioned off in a public event in September to benefit the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village.

Seven Arrows is sponsoring a “find the sombrero game.” There will be 24 sombreros around town, but only one will have a Seven Arrows sticker in it, Bennett said. The first person to find it and bring it to Seven Arrows will win a dream catcher. Seven Arrows will also have live music in front of the store and will have refreshments inside for costumers, he said.

Cupcakelicious will have a Churro Cupcake in honor of Dos De Mayo.

“It’s a cinnamon sugar cupcake with caramel frosting, dusted with cinnamon sugar and topped with a piece of churro,” Bennett said. “Cupcakelicious will also feature live music in front of the store.”

Foxtale Book Shoppe will feature an emerging author event at the store during Friday Night Live. iThink Improv will be having a party on the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village event green, Join them for their fun outdoor gathering at 6 p.m.
