Dixie Speedway will make one more attempt at hosting the Spring Nationals tonight.
The special event, which was supposed to take place two weeks ago, was postponed due to rain. When another Spring National tour event was also rained out that same weekend, both were rescheduled for this week.
Coupled with an already scheduled race at Rome Speedway — Dixie’s sister track also owned by the Swims family — and an event in North Carolina, the extended Memorial Day weekend will bring some of the top late model drivers as many as four races in as many days.
The action began Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, before continuing tonight at Dixie in what could be the most exciting of the four races. The finale of the 10-race event is a 50-lap, $6,000-towin payday, with the championship also hinging on it.
Dixie’s grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. today, with hot laps starting at 7 p.m. Also on the schedule tonight are a full slate of races from the track’s regular drivers.
Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, though ticket stubs from the rained-out race can be used for entry.
