In his newly released book “Voices From The Past: From The Home Front To the Battlefield,” Peardon shares the stories of trials and triumphs from 13 World War II veterans so younger generations may read and learn from their experiences.
“Growing up in a small town in Georgia, I got to know a lot of veterans that served in the war,” he wrote for the back cover of his book. “I am older now and realize that the stories of their sacrifices need to be preserved for generations to come.”
Peardon said he met the other men interviewed as he and his son, Caleb, traveled to assisted living homes across Canton and Woodstock.
“We set up displays and spend the day with them,” he said.
Peardon said in talking with them, he learned of the difficulties they went through, not just with World War II, but also earlier in their life coming out of the Great Depression, and he admired how they pulled together to overcome all of it.
He wrote this book “to bring recognition to the ones who built the foundation of the country that we live in today.”
The book was originally intended to be released last year on Veteran’s Day, but Peardon said corrections and alterations pushed it to Independence Day.
“I’m glad it got moved to another holiday to pay tribute to these veterans, but I think they should be honored every day, not just on special occasions,” he said.
Peardon said he has another book in the works and plans to use the profits from “Voices From The Past” to publish a similar war-related book.
Peardon will hold a book signing at Yawn’s Books & More in Canton on July 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The book will be available at the book store at 198 North St. in Canton, or online at www.yawnspublishing.com, www.amazon.com, and www.barnesandnoble.com. For information call (678) 880-1922.
