ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta police department is preparing to welcome nearly 30 new officers to the force.

Department officials said in a statement that 29 new officers are scheduled to graduate Tuesday evening at City Hall. Officials say the class is composed of 27 men and two women, 14 college graduates and nine officers with military experience.

Department officials say the new officers have completed 22 weeks of training at the Atlanta Police Academy and 12 weeks of field training with veteran officers.

The training includes classes in constitutional law, department policy, defensive tactics and more.
