Four women were arrested Friday on charges of forgery, after allegedly trying to pay with counterfeit checks at a Canton children’s clothing store, police said.

Canton Police arrested Lisa Pruitt, 33, of Atlanta; Larrice Ford, 32, of Stockbridge; Shantrice Glenn, 25, of East Point; and Toereall Powell, 33, of Union City, according to police reports.

According to the arrest records, the four were charged with forgery in the first degree. Canton Police responded to The Children’s Place, located at 1810 Cumming Highway, after the women presented nine counterfeit checks, Canton Officer Pacer Cordry said in a press release.

The police responded to the business due to the checks and their suspicious vehicle, he said. The checks given were pre-printed with various bank logos.

“These institutions have been contacted and it has been determined the checks were printed with non-valid routing and account numbers,” Cordry said in the release.

“It is believed that these individuals have targeted The Children’s Place stores throughout the metro Atlanta area. However, it is possible they have also presented checks to additional businesses.”

Cordry said there is an ongoing investigation conjunction with other metro agencies in an effort to identify similar transactions in their jurisdictions.

The four women were taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center and bond is set at $17,800 for each suspect, police records show.
